Gossamer Concepts

Gossamer Concepts is my latest idea for a new company.

The name

gossamer(adj)

1. a fine, filmy cobweb seen on grass or bushes or floating in the air in calm weather, esp. in autumn.
2. a thread or a web of this substance.
3. an extremely delicate variety of gauze, used esp. for veils.
4. any thin, light fabric.
5. something extremely light, flimsy, or delicate.
6. a thin, waterproof outer garment, esp. for women.

The name was inspired by my view that technology should be veiled by a user interface that shields the user from the underlying technology. It is my belief that users do not want to interact with "technology" but rather they want to act upon their environment. The idea is to place a thin veil over the technology that presents the user with a simple interface but without "dumbing down" the technology.

Company Concept

The company could have many aspects. Clearly I enjoy automation which I also believe is required if we are to veil technology with less complex interfaces.
